It has been WAY too long, we know, but we are alive and well. We are loving Eisley more than ever! It is so great to be able to communicate with her so well. She is also extremely fun to be around! She is now my official movie buddy. It doesn't matter what time of day (or night), she is always up for a movie and popcorn. I love it! Unfortunately I don't have anything new and exciting to share this time, but enjoy these cute pics.

Not many people know this, but about a week and a half ago our little Eisley gave us quite the scare. While Eisley and I were out running errands she began convulsing in her car seat. I immediately pulled over and got her out to find her turning blue. Nothing was in her mouth and I was so unsure of what had happened. Franticly with my limp sweet girl in my arms I was able to run to the nearest person for help. Together we did back thrusts and called 911. Soon she threw up and was thankfully breathing again. Still very out of it and moaning, the paramedics arrived and checked her out. We found out she had a temperature of 104.5 degrees. Because her temperature had spiked so quickly, she had the seizure. They are called febrile seizures. They generally aren't that dangerous unless they last a long time, but in Eisley's case I believe that the seizure had caused mucus to cut off her breathing making it very dangerous. It was all very very very scary. It is still hard for me. Thinking back however, I feel extremely grateful and that is why I am posting today. I am grateful that I had randomly decided to take an illegal turn into the parking lot before I even noticed her. I can't imagine trying to deal with that at a red light, or on the main road. I am grateful that I was close to other people included an amazing woman who helped me in a time of panic. It's amazing how prepared you can be (I'm first aid certified), but in the moment feel so lost and unsure. She kept me calm, focused, and helped with Eisley so well. I am grateful that Eisley was in a forward facing car seat. She was completely quiet back there when it was all happening and had been sleeping too. I am lucky I could see her so well, that I was looking back as often as I did, and was at a place to help her the quickest. Overall, I am grateful to have Eisley with us today. She is so sweet, fun, beautiful, and truly lights up our lives and the lives of those around her! Although the experience was awful, my love and appreciation for her has increased. I'm grateful that Heavenly Father sent us such an amazing little girl and that He has blessed us again by keeping her safe.

Eisley Sings the "50 States" song

Eisley started singing the ABC's a few weeks ago which surprised us... but this totally blew us away. She has only heard it a few times on Sesame Street and apparently has a great memory. She sings it pretty quiet and several of the 3 and 4 syllable states get truncated and mushed together but it is definitely all the states. Turn it up and listen carefully.

Last night I had an idea that made me laugh and laugh til about 1:00 in the morning. In fact, it seemed so funny I woke up laughing. The great idea was to take this video of Eisley screaming beyond the threshold of pain and, after luring unsuspecting victims into turning up their speakers and leaning in close, give them a pants messing surprise. However, judging by the "wrong video" comments, it is not nearly as funny as it was in the middle of the night. Sorry to disappoint, Eisley does not know the 50 States... she is 16 months old.

Binky Ransom Paid

We have heard from the Binky Brigands and we DID get the pacifier back unharmed. However, they did not eat the treat Eisley left for them. In fact, her and her daddy did such a good job molding those NO BAKE Cookies (hence the "not baked but definitely fresh" comment) into authentic looking "logs" that, not only did they not want to eat them, they picked it up with a shovel and placed it directly into the trash.

Eisley's most prized binky has been taken and is allegedly being held by ruthless Heather Moore Pirates. A ransom demand has been made: "Freshly baked cookies or the binky goes down the garbage disposal!"

Eisley has been very distraught, losing sleep over the safety of her binky. However, she has kept a level head and this was her response she left on their doorstep.

These aren't baked but it is definitely fresh,

16 months and smarter than a fifth grader!

This is currently my favorite picture of Eisley! It was taken on her one year birthday. From her most recent doctor's visit we discovered she's short, underweight, and has a watermelon on a toothpick head!! It's because she is so smart though! Her head needed the space to hold her giant learning brain. To be on track she needed to be saying at least three words. Not only has she been signing for months and months, but after creating a list, she knows and says around 130 words!! Genius! She also will repeat almost any word, but we didn't count words she only repeated once we said them. All I have to say is that I'm loving being able to communicate with my little girl so well and it's the cutest thing!!

On a similar note, this may be embarrassing for Dan, but it's the funniest thing. Eisley has known the sign and says potty whenever she is going potty or one of us is going potty. It's really cute especially since she still turns red and tears up when she goes. The funniest part is that no matter where Dan is in the house when he passes gas, Eisley hears it and automatically says "potty!" We crack up everytime and I respond with, "Yes, Daddy went potty in his pants!" Hopefully we will get Dan potty trained real soon!!

Several of our friends have been into the television series Prison Break and recommended it to us. In fact, 2 years ago in an effort to make it so easy we couldn't possibly have an excuse to continue not watching it, Preston lent us season 1 on DVD. Special announcement: we are now on the band wagon; Last week we started watching it with our friends Collin and Tianna.

To make Friday a real date night and not just another night of hanging out watching the show, we decided it was time for another theme date!

The whole evening was a surprise to Collin and Tianna and began with a trip to the tattoo parlor (Smith's Marketplace vending machines). Much to our dismay they didn't have any of the rub on tattoos with blueprints of a prison hidden in them. If fact, they didn't have any tattoos with blue prints of ANY building. We ultimately decided that the princess tattoos really wouldn't help with the theme of the date so we skipped them altogether and went home where we made dinner- Blueberry Pancakes (Lincoln Burrows last meal before execution).

After our "last meal" we jumped in the car headed off to the next part of the date with the VERY Apprehensive Zundels following in the car behind us. We headed north on I-15 and got off at the Bluffdale exit, at which point Tianna began demanding that Collin turn the car around. Her worst nightmare came true when we actually parked at the prison. Unbeknownst to them we had called a good friend of ours who works at the prison and had arranged an after hours, private tour of the facility. We spent the next hour walking through and seeing the maximum security prison cells where guards are trained on forced entry ( I even got to put on the riot gear) and hearing stories about what prison life is really like. Hollywood is notorious for blowing things way out of proportion for the sake of drama. In the case of Prison Break, it seems they have given us the edited, more family friendly version; Thank you Hollywood. The tour ended with Greg offering to schedule a time to take us through the actual facility where inmates are kept and to even walk among them but Collin declined the invitation when he was told he would not be able to bring his own Shank.

To continue on with the theme, we went home and played a game Candace had prepared. Each person was given 6 character cards with the name of a character from the show on it. Then each person was given 12 fact cards that had facts about the actor/actress on it; anything from where they were born to awards they had received. Each character card was to be paired with two fact cards and the first player with all the correct facts with the right person won. Congratulations to Tianna for a lot of lucky guesses. She was very happy to flaunt her win untill Candace gave her the prize: P.I. Pass for the next month. She will be pulling weeds, folding laundry, and doing the dishes at our place for $0.19 an hour. (at that rate you should be able to put Collin through Law school and graduate debt free in just a shade over a century)

The evening finished with us staying up entirely too late to finish Disc 5.

Eisley at six months

INTRUDER ALERT!

After a late night reading my spy novel I groggily awoke to the annoying wail of my alarm clock. I stumbled down stairs to grab some clothes out of the dryer; all the while still rubbing sleep from my eyes. As soon as I got to the bottom of the stairs my heart began to race- someone was down there and not being very quiet about it. I proceeded into the room cautiously and quickly realized the intruder was in the laundry room. I hoped for half a second that it was just a mouse but knew almost as soon as I considered it that no mouse could make a noise that big. Was it Madj Al-Din, the assassin from my book? I peeked in and saw no one but could tell they were behind the dryer that I had pulled out from the wall a couple feet the day before.
I came closer and saw the flexible vent duct thrashing about violently like a snake being electrocuted. Relieved it wasn't a person but aprehensive because I still didn't know what it was I began trying to figure out what it could be; a squirrel or perhaps a rabbit? I shook the hose and saw as the mystery creature moved out of the vent and into the back of the dryer where I heard claws on metal, whatever was in there I did not want to have to touch it. I grabbed a 5 gallon work bucket from the garage, detached the hose from the wall and shoved it in the bucket to trap the animal when it came out. I turned on the dryer to scare it out and was shocked when I realized my bucket was not going to hold the intruder.

We have found that Eisley loves books and is particulary fond of SNEETCHES by Dr Seuss. (I think she recognizes this as a parody on the bizarre human tendancy to stigmatize and stratify eachother based on race, religion, gender, stature and countless other cosmetic, skin deep differences; all the while ignoring the fundamental, inherant and inalienable essence of what makes us all so similar.) She started out just enjoynig being read to but before long, as you can see from this video clip, she now insists on reading along.

So we are super late in announcing our newest friend, Emmalyn. My sister Angela gave birth to Emmalyn on December 13th. Eisley and her have been best friends ever since then. It's amazing how quickly you forget how small they were when they're first born. Emmalyn is such a baby. She has spider-like fingers (I call her Spidey), dark and long hair (So jealous, Eisley has nothing. Although Eisley did sport the mullet for some time, Emmalyn has the old man receding hairline), and does an amazing impression of Zoolander's blue steel. The girls are starting to notice one another and Eisley is always trying to hold her hand.

Lately we've been needing to tell Eisley that she doesn't look cute in her outfits because without fail, everytime we praise her for how cute she is she decides to BLOW OUT in it!!! She particularly likes to blow out when we are out and about. My sister Angela also seems to bring it out of her. Thanks a lot sis!! In fact, in some of those pictures we are at the Malt Shoppe in Provo. They had no kind of changing facilities so we resorted to changing her massive explosion on one of their benches in the restaurant. Hopefully they washed that bench good!! Dan thinks I'm crazy for taking pictures, which he's got a point, but it was all too funny and gross not to share. ENJOY!!

California Pizza Kitchen- Consider yourself Warned!

Because of my success in our recent forays into the art of making pizza, Candace requested I attempt her favorite CPK pizza: California Chicken Club. Thats pizza a crust with mayo, lettuce, chicken, bacon, tomatoes, and avacado. CPK makes it well but we have just found out... I Make it BETTER!

I made the dough from the copy-cat Papa John's recipe that I am constantly modifying. While preparing it Candace noticed I had the honey out and asked me not to use it. Too late, I had already put it in. Of course I didn't want her to believe she didn't like it before she tried it so I told didn't tell her I had already used it and she could just put it away.

She didn't know about the honey and the whole thing was a huge success. Like I said, look out California Pizza Kitchen, I've got your number

So there is a story behind this ugly picture.... it is really Me. When Eisley was born, there was an announcment made at work with a picture I took on my phone attached. We have a very talented graphics department that took that picture, photoshopped it with one of my employee pictures, and the result is this baby with a full set of teeth and a 5 oclock shadow. I am not sure if the votes for Candace were just to keep her from feeling left out, or if someone just needs their eyes checked, but several people saw it and asked if it was real. The answer is a resounding no, Eisley is not that ugly.

Fly with an Overdeveloped Sense of Vengence

Yesterday I was in the kitchen preparing some food for our lunch when I heard the ominous and unmistakeable sound of a fly that had made its way in through the open door- Open because I had not yet, but was fairly certain I would be burning something. I went to the window where I found not one but two flys. I grabbed the closest weapon and went to work; because that is so much more fun than cooking. I made quick work of the first fly and set my sights on number two. For ten mintutes I looked for this fly, flapping things, opening and closing blinds, etc but he had vanished.

I went to work making my gourmet grilled cheese with chicken noodle soup made from scratch- compliments of Sarah Lee and Campbells. We sat down and began to eat. I tried the sandwich and was very impressed but was fairly confident from the aroma of the Chicken Noodle soup, that was to be the highlight. Suddenly something flying through the air struck me right in the left temple. Stunned only for a second I regained my senses and immediately saw the missing fly- the kamakze fly was now floating legs up in my untouched soup.

Eisley's Debut

Hooray she is finally here. We are so happy to welcome Eisley into our lives and out of Candace's Belly! She was born on Wednesday night after about as much coaxing as Mom could give. She surprised us all by weighing in at 8 lbs.

She is so calm and loves to just sit, reflect on life, and take in her new surroundings.

My favorite part is the faces she makes. She is especially entertaining when she is filling her shorts or falling asleep.

One Week to Go!!

Well, only one week to go! We keep telling her she can come anytime, but she's still just hanging out. That's ok, we're just anxious to meet her!

It's amazing how the body can stretch like that huh?!!! We've really enjoyed this whole experience. We love feeling her move around in particular! Dan likes to poke at her and get her all riled up. It's a fun game they play! I can tell already that Dan is going to be a great father! This pregnancy has really brought us closer and we're looking forward to a new chapter in our lives together. We've certainly been blessed!

International Children's Music Festival

So Dan and I have been on the committee for this International Children's Music Festival this year and in a week will be seeing it all put together. The festival is bringing over children from Japan, Nepal, Kenya, and from the U.S. who all share a common love for music. As a part of the committee I've been involved with the dancers and have paired them up with local dance groups to do workshops. I cannot wait to see them dance together!! For most of these kids it will be their first visit to the United States. While they're here they will be home staying with families across Utah from the 4th to the 10th. Dan and I are excited to host a couple of our own! If there are any of you, or know of anyone, who would be interested in hosting some kids, there are about 100 kids who still need homes to stay in!!! They will need a ride in the morning to a drop off point and then will need to be picked up in the evening at that same point. The kids will also need breakfast and dinner with your family. Nothing special, they want to experience your everyday way of life. Anyway, let me know if there are any of you who are interested!!
Also, because the festival is being put on by a non-profit organization, we are depending solely on sponsors to fund the event. This year The Singing Children of Africa are coming and we are still looking for help to cover the costs of them coming over for the event. If anyone knows of any companies that may want to sponsor a child, we'd be very interested in talking with them. We're also looking for any kind of donations no matter how small if you'd like to support the children and the festival. It's going to be an amazing experience for these children and would like to continue on with this event each year.

Another way people can support the kids is by coming to the opening and closing concerts. The opening concert will be held at Thanksgiving Point at 7:30 pm in the Waterfall Amphitheater. It'll be a big welcome for the kids with performances by Jon Schmidt, Alex Boye, Sheree Fitzgerald, The Dance Club, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, and many more local artists. It's going to be a blast! VIP tickets are $20, Family passes are $15, and for general admission it's $8 per person. All proceeds will go towards the festival. You can purchase tickets before from Thanksgiving Point or at the door. Please tell all your friends and family! At the end of the week, the kids will put on a concert for us at Cottonwood High School. I'm not sure of the ticket prices for that, but it'll be on the 9th at 6pm. This concert should be absolutely amazing!! You won't want to miss it!

We're really excited about this event and think it's such a worthy cause for those who would like to get involved too!! We've got more details for those who'd like to know more.

The Ridiculous Six

This last Saturday night Dan and I went on a double date with Andrew (Dan's brother) and Liz (a good friend from work). We set them up for this date extravaganza!! The theme for the evening was Rock Band. We decided that we would create our own band named 'The Ridiculous Six'. We dressed eachother up in the best rockin' clothes that we had to get into character fully. As you can see, we looked sooo cool! Once we were all dressed up we went to the One Man Band Diner... well, because it had the word 'band' in it. It was actually very good and we signed a few autographs. We're famous already!! We ended the night with a concert in our basement. We totally rocked especially all dressed up as true rockers! It was a great night!

Hooray!! We are having a baby girl! We just came from the ultrasound appointment and really enjoyed it. Our little girl was moving around like crazy!! It was so fun to see! Anyway, we have a DVD of it and some pictures and would like to share it with you if you'd like to see it!!

Cinco De Mayo Extravaganza

We had a blast with some of our good friends for Cinco de Mayo this year! We all gathered in Provo for a BBQ at the park. Dan and I were put in charge of coming up with fun games for the event. We took this assignment very seriously! We don't mess around! We started with 'Pin the Mustache on the Gaucho', followed by the 'Taquito Toss'. I have to give props to the Pendletons for dominating the mustache game (even though Matt started wandering way out of bounds he ended up finding his way back and almost nailing it), and props to the Tieks for beating Dan and I in a single shot overtime round of Taquito Toss. We so almost had them. We then broke up into two teams for a special relay race that included holding and passing a bell pepper neck to neck, carrying cinco hot tamales with a hot pad without dropping them, and finishing by chugging a one liter of sprite, getting the worm from the bottom and passing the worm on to their partner to eat. It was definitely intense!! Our team came out victorious!! Matt nearly threw up his sprite, but made it through quick enough to have Jamie pretty much swallow the worm whole. They had to be quick because Ben was taking down the Sprite like a champ and Sheri was on Jamie's tail to finish the worm. Way to go team!! Back at the house we ended the night with a couple of Mexican Word Wizard games where we had to match Spanish words to the appropriate pictures and also unscramble other frequently used Spanish words. We had a blast!! Thanks Sami for planning it and making that amazing Pinata!!

The biggest and best news right now is that we're expecting a baby!! Baby Brandt is on the way! September 26th is my due date. Currently, I just started my 19th week. Most of my weight is being distributed to my lower half, thank you. I have a small pooch for now, but it continues to grow each week.

I have given up my beloved Dr. Pepper for the baby. It hasn't been too difficult, but I do miss it. I only use it medicinally, as I've been getting migraines and such. It's the only thing that will aid me since Tylenol doesn't do much.

Dan and I are extremely anxious to find out the gender of our baby. We were hoping they'd tell us at our last appointment, but no luck. We have an ultrasound appointment set up for May 8th!! We'll let you know what we find out.

We both feel like it's a boy, but you never know. Going off different symptoms and wifes tales, I have both boy and girl symptoms.

We may be a little anti-social right now because I get so stinkin' tired. I work all day and then all I want to do is sleep.

OTHER NEWS!!! Dan just had his 28th birthday!! Yes, he's getting old, but is as sexy as ever! We have a fun date planned for Saturday if it's warm and are planning on doing some hiking and camping when the weather gets good. Anybody else up for that?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am so excited about Christmas!! It is by far my most favorite holiday!! And the best part is that this year Dan and I are heading home to Colorado!! I can't wait to be back in my childhood home and creating new memories... and of course re-creating old ones! I'm counting down the days! Merry Christmas!
